High school education gives youngsters an opportunity to explore their spheres of interest and prosper in their life after graduating. The list of the best high schools in the US issued on April 23, 2013, gives parents an opportunity to choose the institution that will help their kids receive secondary education on a proper level. The rankings are based on the data presented by over 21,000 public schools from the District of Columbia and all the states apart from Nebraska as the information provided by it was not enough to be introduced into the list.

Concerns about the Fair Results on the Regents High School Exam

Teachers from a school of Long Island fell under suspicion. An investigation was initiated, as probably students were prepared for standardized tests in a wrong way. On April 15, there was a claim that administrators brought changes to a Regents exam grade for one student from a high school.

Mid-Year Admissions at Rise

Children from poor backgrounds are changing schools increasingly often. As this usually happens mid-year, their education is at risk. A recent study conducted by Royal Society of Arts (RSA) showed these children are disadvantaged education-wise when their families are moving to areas with lower rents. The study also suggests that the amount of mid-year admissions is currently on the rise, as public spending and benefits are getting trimmed. This means more pupils switch schools outside the time when they accept new admissions.

Charter Schools Do Well in New York City

When charter schools movement was initiated two decades ago, the new type of schools was to replace traditional public schools. However, charter schools generally failed to do what they were designed for. Three out of ten charter schools are actually worse than public schools, but they still operate despite the deal to get closed if underperforming. All this works for the nation, except New York City, however.

US Graduation Rates Are Highest Since 1976

The US Department of Education has recently released the results of its study, which show that American students have managed to achieve the highest graduation rates since 1976. Thus, it is rather good news about the education system in the United States. According to officials, a constant increase in the number of graduates has been caused by the fact that the majority of employers require a high school diploma. Thus, young people who want to get opportunities for further development cannot but graduate from high school. At the same time, people who decided to drop out of high schools encounter a number of difficulties while searching for a job. It was estimated that the number of undergraduates who dropped out and didn’t get their diploma decreased compared to the figures of last year.
